Don’t let these habits drain the life force from your muse

Are you killing your curiosity?

If you engage in these activities, you may be undermining your curiosity without even realizing that you’re doing so:

  • Conducting Google searches and only consuming the concise summaries at the top of its search results.
  • Using AI tools to create content for you.
  • Filling the majority of your mental downtime with entertainment (music, social media, TV/movies, gaming, etc.).
  • Prioritizing virtual over in-person meetings with people

Curiosity drives growth. It’s the engine of innovation. But some of your habits may be blunting it without you realizing it.

I recently came across a quote in a Mark Schaefer article that got me thinking:

“Today, we take recommendation engines for granted, whether it’s Netflix, TikTok, or another place we enjoy content. These algorithms serve a useful purpose by helping us cut through seemingly infinite choices. We happily let a machine feed our content habits.”
